You could append the clips to the main video (they all must share the same codec with the same codec parameters and the same soundtrack layout), then use copy (or cut) and paste to move them around within the video. Thanks to 50 steps of undo/redo supported by Avidemux you can play quite a bit with that :)

Load
- 1st video: Avidemux: File: Open
- 2nd video: Avidemux: File: Append and do so for remaining videos
or drag and drop video onto Avidemux GUI

editing one video: Fast Edit with Copy Mode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avs5AvlSq4Y&list=PLLGMi2RSm8sbiUG2tfv8mcCzJoEsK3JVN&index=9)

Whatever you need or want. "Copy" copies the part of the video between the markers A and B to the internal clipboard of Avidemux, which allows to paste this part starting at the position where you have placed the navigation slider. "Cut" is "Copy" which additionally deletes the part between the markers A and B.

Both operation can be undone by Ctrl+Z. Once an operation has been undone, it can be redone immediately afterwards using Ctrl+Y.

Now I can manage it, many thanks.  One final question:  When Avidemux has not tansition effexts tansitions seems to be of different quality.  What is the method or methods to make tansitions better?  Using encode mode or how?

apply filters: option only available when re-encoding
possible filters:
- Black replace frames by black frame (softer but a little quicker then fade to black)
- Fade to black (in/out): most would require 2: overlapping fade-in and fade-out on scene change, slower more computations
