Using A & B cutters on .mpg file results in unplayable .mpg file

I'm using Avidemux 2.5.4 on Ubuntu Precise 64 bit. The A & B cutters followed by a save used to work OK. Now I'm getting (according to mplayer) a file only 30 seconds long (as opposed to the expected approx 40 minutes after cutting a hundred or so frames at the beginning & approx 30,000 frames at the end from a 1 hour plus file) even though it's shown as 400+MB (with the original as approx 600MB). One strange thing is that when I load the input file, before using A & B, it shows the format as AVI, even though ffmpeg created it as MPEG2Video. Also, when I save the file (after using A & B cutters & changing format to MPEGVideo), it goes to 1% & then finishes very quickly. Is there a bug in this version of Avidemux?

Problem solved. Bug was in version 2.5.4. Bug fixed in version 2.5.6 which I installed from Getdeb.
