problem adding jpeg images no demux found

Hi, I am a new user of 2.6 and was trying to do a timelapse movie from some jpeg images.
I use the Open dialog under file and points to a jpg file. Now it will say could not find demux for  jpg.
Then I try to code images as .png, get some strange colors and then it immediatly crash when touching play.
If I do a save with a name it creates a .avi file, if I open that one it will crash when played.
Did succeed in creating a MP4 file but with weird colors, the same as the preview in program showed (.png).
The colors in the images are not weird when opened in Windows Live Gallerie.
Is there someting I can do to make the jpeg work or get correct colors in .png?

If jpg->png still causing issues, try irfanview for converting to .png.
If other issues with avidemux 2.6, try with avidemux 2.5.6 building the clip and if needed take it from there to 2.6. You can have both programs alongside.

Typical of freeware - pay nothing...get nothing.
