Subtitles leaving marks/artifacts

Hi, I'm using version 2.5.3 to embed a .ass subtitle file, but the subtitles are leaving marks/artifacts. Please see attached image. Are there any known settings I can tinker with to get rid of these marks? Many thanks in advance.

Edit: I just wanted to point out that the image is to 100% scale (yes, the subtitles really are that big!).

Try with 2.6.1 please, 2.5.3 is rather surpassed.

I downloaded 2.6 sometime last year but it was missing the subtitle option in the filters windows - has this been remedied since?

It should be OK, not many feedback on the changes. As long as you use 2.6.1 nightly for your OS. If on windows and 64-bit would fail: use 32-bit and report back.
If the text shows odd, use ttf you know is ok and point to it. Or use this one: http://rapidshare.com/files/909905870/DejaVuSansttf.zip
