2.6.4: freeze with ALSA, no sound with other drivers

I have  a similar (or the same) problem that was already described in these posts:

I don't have pulseaudio installed.

2.6.4 completely freezes with AlsaDefault driver after starting and stopping video. No error messages. Last output on commandline is

[JACK] For play this, you need avidemux compiled with libsamplerate support

No sound with oss

[OSSS] Error initializing OSS: Error : 16

So, it's completely unusable for me.

Any hints would be great, also on how to enable libsamplerate support.

Version 2.6.4, built with bootStrap.bash --deb
System is Debian stable (wheezy).
