Qt 5 and CLI version 16.04.1 Ubuntu LTS 64-Bit only
download archive
unpack archive
go into unpacked folder
install the present debs:
sudo dpkg -i *
I don't understand which link to use for the download. The last post on the appropriate webpage states:
ubuntu 16.04.1 64 bit x86 SMP, QT5, x265 version 1.9: avidemux 2.6.12 1600730-64bit Trusty with x265 version 1.9
This implies that the above link is to Trusty, not Xenial. Please clarify.
Obviously the link text above is wrong, the link itself should be correct.

I still don't understand. AFAIK the supplied link (for Xenial 64 bit) is not for a .deb package but requires compiling from source. Also, I found it difficult to understand which instructions (i.e. in which post) to use for compiling & installing. I suggest that a .deb (i.e. compiled package) should be available for Xenial 64 bit.
- download the archive: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6tr0yz7vv0ucio3/avidemux3_2.6.12-160730-64bit_16.04.1_LTS-Xenial-x265-1-9-debs.tar.gz?dl=0 <= click on this weblink!
- Top right hand of dropbox webpage: click on [Download].
- Save the archive file to your "Downloads" folder.
- Right click on the save archive file, select "extract Here"
It will unpack to a folder with the debs for installation in your download folder. - Open terminal give following commands:
go in to unpacked folder:
cd ~/Downloads/avidemux3_2.6.12-160730-64bit_16.04.1_LTS-Xenial-x265-1-9-debs
install the present debs.
sudo dpkg -i *
after the install you can startup avidemux with:
/usr/bin/avidemux3_qt5
I have no clue how I can explain this more clearer/comprehensive.

are you trolling?
QuoteI suggest that a .deb (i.e. compiled package) should be available for Xenial 64 bit.
the dropbox download "
avidemux3_2.6.12-160730-64bit_16.04.1_LTS-Xenial-x265-1-9-debs.tar.gz" contains the required archive with the .deb (i.e. compiled packages) for installation: no compiling from source!
Jan,
I'm not trolling. I just didn't realise that the .debs file contained 7 .deb files. I've tried to install avidemux as follows but it didn't work:
john@NewLaptop:~/Downloads$ ls

Is there a better way to install it?
John

do not use apt
Mean,
Thanks for the better method of installing avidemux. It gave:
