Title: Choppy Playback Or A Crash
Post by: tinker123 on January 20, 2013, 12:14:59 AM
Avidemux 2.54
XUbuntu 11.10 ( Ubuntu, Linux )
KDE 4.7.4
command: avidemuxz_gtk

Hi all,

I'm trying to get started with Avidemux and I have been having some problems I hope I can get help in resolving.

When I open up an MP4 in Avidemux  I get this dialog box:

Quote
H.264 detected

If the file is using B-frames as reference it can lead to a crash or stuttering.
Avidemux can use another mode which is safe but YOU WILL LOSE FRAME ACCURACY.
Do you want to use that mode?

If I choose the safe mode button,  I get really choppy playback.

If I choose the cancel button I get the message below and Avidemux crashes:

Quote
Crash

g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__VOID
g_closure_invoke

g_signal_emit_valist
g_signal_emit_by_name

I have no idea what any of that means.

Do I need to install some missing library?

Thanks in advance for any help or information

Steve

Don't use Avidemux Gtk 2.54. Use Avidemux Qt 2.6.1, and see if that works on XUbuntu 11.10 KDE 4.7.4? Avidemux Gtk are not fully functional.
If XUbuntu 11.10 is 32-bit version: download from: nightly: precise32 or quantal32 (http://avidemux.org/nightly/)
For 64-bit version download from: avidemux Cli/QT/GTK 2.6.1 64-bit deb download ubuntu 11.10 (http://avidemux.org/smuf/index.php/topic,11708.0.html)
Also keep in mind support stops in april 2013 for ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot)

Please consider upgrading to Xubuntu 12.04 (http://xubuntu.org/news/12-04-release/), supported for three years per the Xubuntu LTS plan.

I uninstalled the gtk version and installed the qt version.  I couldn't go higher than 2.54.   No difference.

My hardware is old.  I had trouble upgrading to *Ubunutu 12.04 when it came out.  I had to settle for 11.10.   I know support for 11.10 is ending in April.  I plan on getting a new box in March and putting the latest MINT on it.  I will check back here for any ideas with my current software, if not I will live with it until March.
