Title: Avidemux 2.6.10 & 2.6.11beta1 Ending Encoding After 1%
Post by: ddn2003 on January 03, 2016, 12:57:15 AM
I have tried to encode a rip from a DVD (in both DVD folder and ISO file) to x264/MP4v2 file. I have ripped the DVD in both formats using DVD Shrink and CloneDVD2. It always ends at 12.9MB.

Here's my py project file:
adm = Avidemux()
adm.loadVideo("D:/Downloads/HARRY_POTTER/7DEATHLY_HALLOWS_PART1/VTS_01_1.VOB")
adm.clearSegments()
adm.addSegment(0, 0, 8765023154)
adm.markerA = 0
adm.markerB = 8765023154
adm.videoCodec("x264", "useAdvancedConfiguration=True", "general.params=CBR=1536", "general.threads=0", "general.preset=ultrafast", "general.tuning=film", "general.profile=baseline", "general.fast_decode=False", "general.zero_latency=False"

, "ratecontrol.aq_mode=1", "ratecontrol.aq_strength=1.000000", "ratecontrol.mb_tree=True", "ratecontrol.lookahead=40")
adm.addVideoFilter("swscale", "width=1280", "height=716", "algo=2", "sourceAR=2", "targetAR=0")
adm.addVideoFilter("crop", "top=88", "bottom=94", "left=0", "right=0")
adm.audioClearTracks()
adm.setSourceTrackLanguage(0,"unknown")
adm.audioAddTrack(0)
adm.audioCodec(0, "LavAAC", "bitrate=192");
adm.audioSetMixer(0, "STEREO");
adm.audioSetDrc(0, 0)
adm.audioSetShift(0, 0,0)
adm.setContainer("MP4V2", "optimize=0", "add_itunes_metadata=0")

I have also tried the 720p under the Auto menu and manually setting everything to AVI/MP3. Nothing is working.

Can anyone help?

Not going in to details on dvd rip, this is not the forum for this.
using 720p = upscaling original video
dvd   = 720x480 (ntsc) 720x576 (pal)
720p = 1280x720

avi = not the recommended container to use (aged), audio leave on copy
load your dvd video, select:
- Video Output: Mpeg4 AVC (x264)
- Audio Output: Copy
- Output format: MP4v2 Muxer
on average this would reduce file size by 1/3 (example 38.8 MB to 12.2 MB)

The DVD rips were pretty simple. They all were just the movie's title with only English audio and no subtitles.

I'll try your suggestion and see if I can get it to work.

Just tried your suggestion and it still crapped out after 1%.

I tried your settings and still can't get it to encode past 1%. I've re-ripped it with multiple programs and all do the same thing. The idx2 file can be found at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16879913/VTS_01_1.VOB.idx2. Maybe there is something wrong with the file Avidemux creates.

Delete the .idx2 files
Load VTS_01_1.VOB
When avidemux asks to autoload remaining parts: reply no. Append manually each part to the already loaded video.
File: Append
- VTS_01_2.VOB
File: Append
- VTS_01_3.VOB
...

Tried this, still no-go. Ended up using Handbrake to encode it. I was able to encode the other 7 Harry Potter DVDs without any problem.

Thanks for all the help!

Miscommunication? Avidemux can't rip dvd.
