User interface and Usability / Show audio decibels bars along...
Last post by Altair - May 17, 2024, 05:14:44 PM
First thanks for Avidemux.  Avidemux is an excellent video editor for handling lengthy screen recordings, such as gameplay, for example. Often, we record the screen for extended periods. Afterward, we might want to locate a brief segment containing relevant content within a very long recording. It's not uncommon for significant moments to coincide with loud noises and loud chatter. For this reason, I would appreciate a simplified, dim-colored bar graph of accumulated decibels alongside the timeline. This feature would be a useful addition to Avidemux, making it easier to identify key moments in long recordings based on audio levels. I would suggest to start to try the implementation this way:  First, calculate the sum of the decibel values of the samples from the current audio track within each group of frames or something. Then, normalize this data relative to the highest value found. Finally, display these normalized-sized bars alongside the timeline in dim colors.
If I knew how to program computers, I would try to do this. Unfortunately, I do not. I started a new topic because the old one was a necro and there was an alert suggesting to do so. Thank you very much for your attention.

Attach photo after and before. After re-econde quality is worse. Respond to Geo_Log.

Windows / Does Avidemux offer HEVC H.265...
Last post by thoste - May 17, 2024, 12:33:35 PM
I would like to encode some videos with new HEVC codec.

Is this somehow possible with AVidemux.

The drop-down of available encoders does not show it.
Maybe its possible by an additional (payable) external plugin?

AC3 (lav) is the only AC3 option in the drop down list. The second AC3 option was removed quite some time back, no? Only AC3 (lav) in the plugins folder.

Yes, I reproduced the issue using no audio filters.

Main version 2.6 / Feature request: confirmation ...

I think it would be a handy feature: dialog with confirmation about closing the Avidemux instance, which you can enable or disable in Preferences\ User Interface tab. It's very easy to close accidentally two or more opened program windows.

Quote from: Drakon66 on April 29, 2024, 03:57:42 PMOk but in avimedux is possible to append ?

Only as an internal audio track of a video. The video is appended, thus the audio track in that video becomes a continuation of the existing one (if the properties of the audio track like codec and codec settings, sampling frequency and number of channels match).

Quote from: Drakon66 on April 29, 2024, 03:57:42 PMAnd append you mean merge or just add second one ?

"Append" always means to continue after the end of the existing something. "Merge" is a more general term, "make one out of several", describes the final result of the processing.

Quote from: Drakon66 on April 29, 2024, 03:57:42 PMWhen I add new track audio a have two diffrent track or I can replace it.

You have both options. Adding an external audio track (telling Avidemux to use an external audio file as an audio track) at position two, as far as the audio file is accepted by Avidemux, either adds a second audio track additionally to the first internal one or replaces the second internal one. To replace the first audio track, you need to select an external audio file at position one.

In any case, you cannot mix (like an overdub) an external audio into an existing audio track with Avidemux. This is a job for a proper audio editor.

Thank you, got the samples. Please specify which AC3 encoder you used. On Windows, there might be not just the AC3 encoder in libavcodec but also Aften among audio encoder plugins in Avidemux.

Quote from: jimmy on May 15, 2024, 08:33:26 PM- the only change I wanted to make to the AC3 6 channel was the gain

Was it necessary to reproduce the issue? Does re-encoding without any audio filters result in the same messed up channel layout?

Blues,

Right, .mkv is a lot easier to adjust Aspect Ratio settings in the metadata. .mp4 is the tricky one.  You stated that you didn't know of a player that ignored metadata.  I assume you mean AR (aspect ratio) settings.

Since web browsers do not playback .mkv, hardly at all, except Safari and older Edge, then anyone playing back the media in a web browser straight has to use .mp4 and the browser will not get aspect ratio adjustments from metadata settings.  Browsers are playing back just square pixels only.

Since most of the time AR errors are very small, I think most people never notice the problem.  I see it all the time. Perhaps in around 25% of online media archives that are not 16:9 or 4:3.  1.33 is used instead of 1.37 or 1.66.  2.37 is used instead of 2.35 or 2.39.  1.78 is used instead of 1.85.  All these can easily be missed.  Most people would not notice.

All can be fixed with AVIDemux.  Crop out any black bars and check the remaining AR with a size adjustment filter and compare it to the listed AR for the media online, available with a membership imdb account.  It's wrong very often.

Thanks for your time.

- I missed the option in WeTransfer to increase the default expiry from 3 to 7 days
- I confirmed the problem with a different video, so mentioning video encoding was not relevant
- I confirmed that the extra step of remuxing, using either mkvtoolnix or avidemux, is required, audio
quality of the remuxed audio in copy mode is fine, encoding the audio of the remux is fine
- I confirmed that using one step, adding external AC3 6 channel to avidemux and encoding,
distorts the audio, the external AC3 6 channel needs to be internal before encoding
- so for step 3, remuxing was not an option due to video edits, external audio in copy mode is fine, encoding the external audio is distorted
- the only change I wanted to make to the AC3 6 channel was the gain, all other parameters were unchanged
