Title: Working with PS5 HDR Videos
Post by: KarstenS on December 23, 2020, 10:07:08 AM
Hello,

I really like to use AviDemux as this is the onliest to me known software, which can be used to cut videos while not reencoding the streams at output.

Now with the PS5, there are 4K HDR recordings incoming and I ran into an issue with AviDemux.

I'm using 2.7.6 - Release and also tested the latest 2.7.7 nightly.

That the preview is not color corrected is a smaller one and primary not so important.

But the output in Copy/Copy mode ...

... seems to miss some metadata, as the output file will not recognised as HDR video stream and doesn't look correct anymore.

For testing I have uploaded an unchanged video sample to Onedrive: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Am2Bi9A4THxG6gtDJGiMFCeLkrJF?e=A9sHOx

I've made the recording as short I could so the file size is just 17.4 MB.

Support for color primaries, matrix coefficients and transfer characteristics, necessary for HDR, is not implemented yet, a limited support for color range handling is present in nightlies. For now, you can add the necessary metadata to MKV file produced by Avidemux with MKVToolNix. You need to set the following fields for the video track (in German locale) in "Farb-Informationen des Videos":

Farbmatrix-Koeffizienten: 9
FarbĂĽbertragung: 16
Primärfarben: 9
Farbbereich: 1

and save the file.

Thanks for the response.

Seems to work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3Wt2WbVN58

May you please respond again, when a version is available, where this workaround is not needed anymore?
