(I am using version 2.8)
I have an MKV file that says it's audio is AAC at 320 kb/s in the MediaInfo tab in my video player. However, when I load it into Avidemux, it reports the audio as 96 kb/s in the info menu and on the audio track selection menu and after editing the video and saving it, it becomes 96 kb/s in the MediaInfo (and I am saving the audio and video in copy mode, so no re-encoding is being done).
Is the audio actually 96 kb/s and Avidemux just "fixed" it to display properly, or is something else going on here?

For a lot of reasons starting with fixes for a number of easy to hit crashes, I'd recommend updating to the latest available 2.8.1 nightly build (https://avidemux.org/nightly/).

It is absolutely impossible to tell without a sample.
