Title: Frame rate discrepancy
Post by: looklook on June 24, 2024, 10:12:26 PM
Hello

I'm trying to make copies of various segments of a gameplay video. The video I'm using is 59.94fps, the copy that Avidemux makes is 60fps.

What am I doing wrong? The start and end-point is on a keyframe. The file is an MP4. Output is set to MP4 Muxer.

Video and Audio set to copy.

I'm using Avidemux 2.8.1

Should I be using a different version?

Please open Avidemux (the latest available 2.8.2 nightly build (https://avidemux.org/nightly/); in case of Windows and Linux it doesn't need to be installed, just make sure you never run multiple instances of Avidemux simultaneously), load the source video in Avidemux, close Avidemux and attach the log (admlog.txt from %localappdata%\avidemux on Windows) to your reply. You may constistently anonymize paths the log may contain.

So something is wrong? I have just been rolling with it. 29.97 fps videos turn into 30.11, 30.05 etc

https://avidemux.org/nightly/win64/avidemux_2.8.2%20r240531_win64.exe

is this the latest nightly build?

The log would hopefully allow to answer exactly this question.

Yes, at the moment, this is the latest installer-packaged cross-compiled nightly build. The native build off the same code was compiled a day later, on June 1 2024 and uploaded to https://avidemux.org/nightly/vsWin64/ (https://avidemux.org/nightly/vsWin64/). It is up to individual preference which build and packaging type to pick: a cross-compiled (installer- or ZIP-packaged) or a native build.

Ok, thanks. I Have no idea how I would anonymize paths though.

I tested the newest nightly build and the videos retain the same frame rate as the source when using this one.

Kind of annoying. I don't know enough about video stuff. I have over 60 gameplay clips all with a weird frame rate 30.11, 30.05 etc

Do you think I should re-do all of it? Or will the frame rate discrepancy not matter?

Replace each path consistently with a placeholder using a text editor (not LibreOffice Writer or MS Word!). "Consistently" means different paths get different placeholders, identical paths share the same placeholder.

Which tool does report these frame rates? It should be MediaInfo. In doubt, please provide a sample video via WeTransfer, Mega, Dropbox or Google Drive.

I cannot recommend anything based on currently zero usable info. What purpose do the exported segments serve? Please either provide logs for processing performed using 2.8.1 and the latest 2.8.2 nightly or provide an unprocessed source video (as short as possible, a couple of minutes of duration should be enough) additionally to a sample video I asked for above.

That's too much work. I'm sure it's fine now. I'll just re-do the other stuff some other day.

The clips are for gameplay montages and compilations.
