Title: Very simple - need to crop and save the result
Post by: Melissa2012B on January 07, 2013, 05:52:47 AM
This is my first time using Avidemux. I downloaded it tonight to crop a bird video that I did here. ALL I want to do is crop and save the result.

I figured how to crop, from some online instructions I found, but when I close the window as it says, it goes right back to the uncropped version and if I save, THAT gets saved, not the cropped version.

How can I do this please?

I actually found out that it was because Video Output was set to "Copy" by default, that it was always saving the original, and not what I had cropped. I didn't know - never used this before.

Thanks!

That was surely not the reason...
Copy means no re-encoding is done.

Hmm, wonder why it worked then?

I would crop it and close the window, like the web instructions I found, said. Then save it, but it kept saving only the original, not the cropped version.

Then when I took it out of that Copy setting, it worked.

The cropped result is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YjMRBHXYJg&list=UUxlFL7xsmcttKcCIvDLOdjQ&index=1

Eeek, I just noticed it lost the audio too!

At least I still have the original, but this is messed up.
