Title: "File too short"
Post by: mmdk on September 11, 2013, 09:41:31 AM
I get "file too short" message in .ts-file-recording from specific broadcaster when trying to save to Mpeg TS Muxer (ff).

The problem only exist if the recording is from a specific broadcaster/channel. And only if the file is more than ~1min and saved to .ts again.

Shorter files works fine with .ts output, and AVI Muxer output works fine with large files.

I have made a test/sample file for testing and analyzing: www.145.dk/avidemux/testrecord1.ts (25MB) (Save as...)

The file is original (direct start/stop recording)

My setup is Windows 7 64bit -  Recorded with HD Homerun + DVBLink + Synology.

How to:

Open avidemux v.2.6.0
Select copy + copy + Mpeg TS Muxer (ff)
Import test file from above.
Save output.

Message I get: "File too short"

Is this a bug? Is there a workaround or anything I can do about it?

Thanks in advance.

The timing is going back. The file is straight from capture card ?

Interesting... But yes, I have a HDHomerun as tuner. And a Synology NAS with DVBLink for controlling it. DVBLink is doing the record direct to HDD, an I dont think is doing anything to the file.

I can try make another copy from a windows recording program, with another software, but still with same tuner, but I dont think it makes a differences.

Again... I think its the only channel out of 36 with this "error", maybe its the broadcast station that have a problem.

Let my try with another recorder first.

The file has errors, mkvmerge gui won't accept it. To "repair" it, you can remux it to mkv with ffmpeg if you add "-sn" to remove the subtitle track. Then avidemux seems to work with it normally.

Well... After alot of other tests, it seems to be a specific channel issue, and has nothing to do with avidemux.

If I watch the channel for a couple of minutes, I see the picture makes a lot of pixelating/art-effects no matter what software I use. So it is ether a problem with the tuner or the stream.

But... If I record or watch the channels in the same transponder/mux, there is no errors. And there is no problems with other channels from 'SBS-Net' that owns the infected channel.

So I guess it cant be the tuner right? Must be from outside.

Is there any chance that the broadcaster is doing this on purpose? I mean, my Samsung TV is not affected by this.  Another "standard"-stream-type or whatever? Can I report it as an error to my TV-provider?

I will try "tuxutat"s reply in a way to do a workaround.

But thanks for all replays so far - I have another issue related to avidemux, but I make a new Topic on that.
