When scrolling step by step I see
Frame Type: B-TFF
Frame Type: P-TFF
and
Frame Type: I-TFF
when cutting and saving I always see the previous recording flashing by, really a split second.
1 frame?
In the example below, the recording I want, it starts at 09:56.440
I set the start marker [A] at 09:56.560 just to make sure.
After saving and playing back in VLC, at 00:00 there is shot of the previous recording (09:56.400). Again, just a split second.
How to avoid that?

With avidemux 2.6.x branch you can only cut nicely when cutting point is selected with the up/down cursor arrow. Selecting cutting point with left/right arrow cursor keys produces these effects as you describe. Tried to explain you this before.

Very sorry to say, having to 'confess', I missed your last post (other thread).

I know, I know, you told me more than once to use the up/down arrow only.
Thing is, being a newbie, I did not exactly understand -why- . . .
I (wrongly) felt that using the < and > arrows I could 'position' more exact, as the 'steps' were smaller,
so I could position the exact start of the cutting. But that could very well be on a 'B'or 'P' frametype.
Noticed that with up/down arrow, indeed only I-TFF frametype is selected.

Just for complete information:
If you are dealing with a video stream that is encoded to the MPEG-4 (ASP) standard (eg Xvid) then
I would use avidemux 2.5.6 for cut/edit/copy.
Avidemux 2.5.6 is a different program and has a function called smartcopy.
With that function you can cut/edit/copy on P frames and even on B frames.
Note: smartcopy does not work on MPEG-2 (video in questiion here).

Meanwhile, I have been trying to figure out what few steps I should take to handle een original DVD, i.e.
the .bup .ifo and .vob files in the VIDEO_TS folder of a DVD.

Seems I need to download mplayer first, so for my Core2 9550 I need MPlayer-core2-r36986+g9c99bc1.7z from SourceForge.

I think I should use :

where 1 should be the title of the video ???
should that then be including path ?

likely not... but what should it be then?

If its a retail DVD then you first need to un-scramble the material inside the vob's.
Google that for info.

Still need to figure out how to add subtitles. When I play the video (from hd), I can select the subtitle from the main menu.
In Avidemux I might click on Video->Filters->click subtitles
It says
SSA.
Hardcode ass/ssa subtitles using libass
I might click on 'plus'-button
but Avidemux asks for a file to be opened.
Maybe it isn't possible though.

Should be possible. You need either to download a matching subtitle (srt) and convert it with subtitle editor program to ssa. Or create .ssa subtitle file your self with a program like Aegisub (http://www.aegisub.org/) or similar. sample ssa file attached:
VOB's have graphical subs, so you need to use a subtitle editor that has an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) engine.
There are a few eg 'subtitle edit' .
Then you can train the OCR to create text based subtitles (usually srt and ssa are available options).

If you just want to keep the DVD Video and its VOBSUB's (subtitle tracks) then MKV can store VOBSUB's as well.
Depending on your need to edit/recode etc that might be an easy option.
