Title: Software suggestion.
Post by: Gandalf on June 26, 2014, 01:02:57 AM
Permit me to humbly suggest that when you develop future versions of Avidrmux, please consider including a '.bz2' file. I mention that because the operating system that I am using (Vector Linux 7.0) comes with a neat little program called "vpackager" which allows me to create and install software from '.bz2' files (such as is the case with DVDStyler, for example).

From Vector Linux forum: VPackager help please. (http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=17533.0)

There is a tendency to move away from bzip2:
- kernel.org stops using bz2 (http://henrich-on-debian.blogspot.be/2013/12/kernelorg-stops-using-bz2.html)
- No more .bz2 files from kernel.org (http://lwn.net/Articles/578160/)

If that's true, then why is software such as DVDStyler (found at the following link: http://www.dvdstyler.org/en/downloads) still using such a format? I think that the kernal.net information that you provided only applies to them.

How should I know, possible reasons are given in No more .bz2 files from kernel.org (http://lwn.net/Articles/578160/)
kernel.org: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kernel.org

Other possible reasons:
- The current version is 1.0.6, released 20 Sept 2010. (http://bzip.org/index.html)
- multi-threading, giving almost linear speed improvements on multi-CPU and multi-core computers. As of May 2010, this functionality has not been incorporated into the main project. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bzip2#Compression_efficiency)

Sorry about that, but I was just trying to be helpful by suggesting something that would make things a little bit easier for us Slackware users.

Don't feel sorry about this, no problem. Did you read/tried this from your previous question: Installation help please (http://avidemux.org/smuf/index.php/topic,16219.0.html)
