Title: Problem with extracting subtitles
Post by: buscador on January 18, 2016, 02:38:25 PM
Could anyone tell me if I forgot something in the installation of Avidemux 2.6.10. I am in language learning and I use movies with subtitles to practice different languages. I want to extract subtitles from movies I already own. I installed Avidemux version 2.6.10. According to the book, under Tools I should see a menu with various options, one of the being VOB -> VobSub. Etc.

My problem is that under Tools all I see is Scripting Shell.

Is there any configuration I must change in order for the options shown in the book to appear under the Tools menu?

Thanks for any help.

That relates to the subtitle extraction tool from the old branch (i.e. 2.5.x)
It is no longer ther in the current version (2.6.x)

That is unfortunate. So I have to use another tool to get the subtitles out? Any good suggestion?
Further, Avidemux Wiki states still that VobSubs can be extracted: https://www.avidemux.org/admWiki/doku.php?id=using:video_filter_vobsub (https://www.avidemux.org/admWiki/doku.php?id=using:video_filter_vobsub)
Would be good to correct this and say s.th. like worked up to v2.5 only.
Thanks

Hi,
I recently started using Avidemux a lot for MPEG TS files on my Linux Mint 19 system. I think it is really easy to use  and super fast but I noticed it is stripping the subtitles out. I need a tool that will trim a TV programme file and remove the audio description (narration) stream but keep the subtitles.

I've looked at Openshot which is too bulky and will not create output without re-encoding. It's dog slow as a result. I liked the look of vidcutter which has a nice interface. Sadly, it doesn't do anything with MPEG TS files and it doesn't even tell you until you go poking around in the log files. I think it's odd that these programs use ffmpeg but don't do what Avidemux does regarding copying streams.

In the meantime I'm using Avidemux for files where the subtitles don't matter much and ffmpeg in a terminal to edit files where they are essential. I have even started trying to write a simple program using Lazarus to simplify using ffmpeg for my needs. It will take a while because I am trying to re-learn Pascal from 30 years ago.

I think adding the ability to copy subtitle streams in Avidemux would win even more fans. Trawling AV forums suggests there is a demand for it.

Thank you for the program; it's been a big help to me already.
