Title: Two issues with avidemux
Post by: gino2812 on May 22, 2016, 06:25:38 PM
PROBLEM 01:
I used version 2.6.10 (worked ok), until somehow I got an mkv (x264) 10bit video which I tried to convert into a mp4(x264) 8bit... and I couldn't.
(attaching txt mediainfo file of mkv 10bit video)

After many tries, I changed to version 2.6.12 hoping it will solve the problem... but not. Same error jump after 1 second:
'THE VIDEO HAS BEEN SAVED BUT SEEMS TO BE INCOMPLETE'

Its an anime video with 5.1 aac audio. Because o this, I tried to turned into stereo so I can watched on my led tv. But it didn't work.
Also tried to just copy, but nothing.

I tried to solve this issue in the spanish forum (I'm native spanish speaker), but 'Jan Gruuthuse', told me it was beyond his capability after trying to solve it.

Here is the link of the file I'm trying to turned into an mp4 x264 8bit stere oxxx

Here is the forum link in which we talked in spanish (mostly) about solving this issue without any luck (please take a look, so you can't lose time in what we already tried and didn't work): http://avidemux.org/smif/index.php/topic,16803.0.html (http://avidemux.org/smif/index.php/topic,16803.0.html)

PROBLEM 02:

I have a 2nd video (mp4 x264 8bits), to which I tried to insert a PNG logo with irregular border.
Sadly, avidemux only works with jpg, and any other image format is not accepted.
Can you please update this issue?
Even virtualdubmod had a 2007 plugin that works with PNG.

I need to add a new colorspace conversion for it to work
It should not take long ( retry in a few days)

From memory, PNG works , but it needs to be in YUV , i'd have to recheck

on Linux the commit 9e97251    [core] Add support for yuv444 10 bits is working:

the [UWF] video file is opening and processed correctly: (scaled down image)

I've pushed the change & redone the win64 built
I cannot test it at the moment

see that nightly for win64 is online: http://www.avidemux.org/nightly/win64/

Could be mistaken: png has no YUV colorspace, that I could find out.

Thanks both of you for trying to solve the issues I present in the main post.

Just FYI, I use win 7 64 bits.

When you finish updating avidemux, please let me know so I can give it a try.

Wow... that was quick.  :)
Thanks a lot.

Do I have to uninstall the last version I have or I just can install this new one r160523?

Well... here am I. :)

I finally convert the mkv 10 bit video to a mp4 8 bit.  I'm really happy about it. Quality, ok.
But...
For some reason I don't understand, the subtitle (ass) processed was about 650mm seconds retarded.
I tried twice and in the third, I have to use aegisub to aligned it (avdmx doesn't have a tool to do it). Thankfully that works, but I have to do it twice just to fit it perfectly.

About the PNG image in the logo...
Still the same issue. i'm showing an image (slide it to see the right corner):

It works better.
Invisible or Alpha not yet.
Invisible or Alpha turns black.
Title: Alpha png
Post by: Jan Gruuthuse on May 28, 2016, 02:21:29 PM
perhaps this is possible:
- when alpha is present in png use this, don't set alpha to whole png.
- when no alpha is present, allow background colour (deviate a range from it) picking to set to alpha

Well, I use win7 64 bits.
If you have the avidemux 64b capable of working, that's fine for me.
But, if you're working on having something stable, I can wait. Not hurries about that. Just from while to while post here something about your progress.

Thanks and good luck.

Ok, finally I have something. But there is a shadow around the logo, where it is supposed to be transparent.
Is that the way this is gonna work?

Here I show an image of my video already converted (slide it to see the right corner). Also, I'm attaching the logo I want to insert.

PS: Sorry, EEMcGee.

there is another issue with this logo ;) white to alpha
the background is white based, with a reworked background (black to alpha) it works.

So...?
can I download a new one and test it?

----EDIT----

I downloaded and installed ver. r160604 64b.
Works fine and logo is beautifully inserted on video.
I made some test with it, and found something odd... when I fill with a different number in the 'alpha' box, image still the same. No change.
Though I'm very grateful as it is and your enthusiasm on solving the main issue I originally posted.
Thanks to both of you very much.

I made some test with it, and found something odd... when I fill with a different number in the 'alpha' box, image still the same. No change.
On my request with .png add logo uses alpha channel if present.
Alpha: 0 to 255 is for .jpg usage
My understanding how this works now.

see below:
Title: Re: Two issues with avidemux
Post by: Jan Gruuthuse on June 05, 2016, 03:57:15 PM
Done some testing
- alpha setting works only if alpha channel is not set on png
logo left alpha background
logo middle no alpha, black background (Alpha = 190)
logo right no alpha, white background (Alpha = 190)
see attached screen cut out:

- add logo jpg  seems to be disabled, you can select jpg as logo: nothing happens. Perhaps don't allow selecting anything else but .png
Title: Add logo
Post by: Jan Gruuthuse on June 07, 2016, 06:09:48 AM
Update:

- when loading png with alpha channel: picture with invisible background
-- Alpha [255] is grayed out (not selectable)

Alpha setting below works on the whole picture
- when loading png without alpha channel, Alpha [255] is selectable.
- jpg is enabled, you can also set Alpha [255]

So, it depends on which type of png I'm using to be able to have a result when I fill a number on the alpha box?

If the png has alpha channel, we'll use that
IF not (or jpeg or bmp), we use the one from the spinBox

I just like to add that this is a issue I have had problems with as Long as I have used avidemux even it is a amazing program this is very frustrating to get this message "movie is short". When this happens I need to do it manual and change video output to the codec I wanna use and let it encode it manual. Then it works. But takes long time to complete.

But I like to ask a question about this problem is this a memory issue. ?

If I use small clips upto 1gb it works but if I have bigger files like 5gb or bigger many times I get this error.

I use avidemux to edit tv recordings that is recorded in *.ts.

QuoteBut I like to ask a question about this problem is this a memory issue. ?
most likely not
QuoteI use avidemux to edit tv recordings that is recorded in *.ts.
So do I, what is the source of your recordings (DVB-T/T2 or DVB-S/S2)

This should not happen with ts. However not all providers use the same settings.
If you have such a sample video (10 seconds / +- 100 Mb) giving you this problem:
- please start a new thread
- upload and provide weblink to this video!
- document your workflow, so the situation can be recreated.

Developers need to reproduce this problem, to see if this can be fixed!
ps:- Use a free dropbox account, www.wetransfer.com, mega or similar webservice (free public access, without registration to download your uploaded video) thank you.
