Title: Slowing down up/down keys slider
Post by: bootroom on September 04, 2020, 08:20:56 AM
why is that some files especially those big interlaced videos slider goes slower compared your progressive 720p ones?

i like to edit when its slower, faster ones are no use for me since we can't see anything in that speed. is there a way to make slider go slower with up/down keys. it will make my job lot easier that way.

I struggle to understand your post. Do you speak about seek or about playback? And when seek, do you mean the autorepeat frequency of keyboard buttons, configurable in system settings, or the real seek speed, which depends on hardware performance and on Avidemux settings like hardware accelerated decoding and display being enabled or disabled?

Are you aware of navigation slider, thumb dial and up/down keys seeking to keyframes only and that distance between keyframes is a property of video which is determined at its creation (during encoding)?

Please explain.
Title: Search key, step forward of backward by a few seconds

The slider is good by lacks "resolution" when video is long. I mean it is quite hard to go to a specific point in time when it matters going to a specific second in the video. The point is allowing to moving back and forth in video with real immediate playback.

Here is my problem.  I want to edit the video in which I have many shorts sound cuts. Unless I use the time button it is not possible to go near I want.

Ideally having a pair keys to jump back or forth a by a second would be great.  I would use the slider first, then listen where I am, then use key to skip to the next second (with real playback), and when near the point, I would use the actual key for next/previous image, which allows shorter skips.  This pair of key would allow increment/decrement by 1 sec by defaut (no need to specify a duration).

Or you may be you could implement the use of the positioning wheel with real playback, playing slower or faster back and forth. But I think this is a more though thing to implement.

1 second back / forth: Shift + Left / Shift + Right

2 seconds: Ctrl + Left / Ctrl + Right

4 seconds: Ctrl + Shift + Left / Ctrl + Shift + Right

When seeking backward, the speed depends on the distance from the most recent keyframe before the target time and the size of video cache. With long GOPs, at high resolutions or with high FPS it may be very slow. When seeking forward, the speed is limited by the speed of video decoding + color conversion.

What is the benefit? The space key is the most easy to reach key on a keyboard, so resuming plaback after seek should not pose a problem.
