Could you please add options to:

These would be quite convenient, in my opinion.

Is "Edit" --> "Preferences" --> "Output" --> [X] "Default to the directory of the last read file for saving" not doing it for you?

Making volume level and eventually muting state persistent = making it a preference? Maybe, this might match expectations of many users on Windows and macOS, where this change actually would have an effect (there is no volume control in Avidemux when using the default audio output on Linux).

Oh ops, I didn't even notice that, thanks.

Only at start btw. This is because all my other programs are configured at a certain volume, but when I use Avidemux.. it blasts in my ears (if I forget).
I'd probably set it a 50% because my system is damn loud (dunno if it's common).

Ah also, about changing volume: is it possible to use the mouse scroll-wheel or a click-to-set method? Drag-to-set isn't super convenient.
