Avidemux user here..

Trying to direct copy a mp4 (mp4 muxer) file which is encoded with h264 but only with this file i get this Too Short problem at the beginning of the file. The saved file is only 50kb. I tried 4 other mp4 files they all worked fine, but i need to cut/copy this file too. The source file is not broken so its not the solution. I also tried mp4v2 muxer but the result file is not playable on VLC or any other players.

Is there anything I can do ? The file is 3 gigs so its impossible for me to upload also its NSFW file

Here is the MediaInfo of the file:

Tried with 2.6 r 8121 beta w7 64 bit..

I still get the error :(

What can i do to remedy this error ?

Please, Jan or Mean can you try to help me ? If there is any way i can help you guys please let me know ?

(BTW I can cut this file using mkvmerge and the output file is mkv, I can supply that if it will help you guys )

File opens in avidemux 2.6 and plays?
Have you tried loading the video and use copy for both video and audio and use Output Format: Mkv Muxer and then save the video?
Then start from this MKV: load in avidemux and try to do what you want to do?
If you want to take it any further a sample of similar mp4 (20 MB) would be needed.
The remuxed mkv would not help here as the container is changed.

Can you do anything with the mkvmerged mkv file in avidemux? load cut/edit then save in mp4v2 mp4?

Could be you need to re-encode Video Output: Mpeg4 AVC (x264).
Try this with a [A][B]marked 10 second of that video. Select marks only with up/down keyboard arrow.

FAQ: File too short

If all fails:
You could re-encode in Handbrake and then do the edit/cut with avidemux

-File opens in avidemux 2.6 and plays?
-YES

-Have you tried loading the video and use copy for both video and audio and use Output Format: Mkv Muxer and then save the video?
-Gives the same error "FILE IS TOO SHORT"

-I did what you have suggested to me. I have cut the first 1minutes of the file with MkvMerge and the resulting file was mkv = matroska, then i opened this mkv file with avidemux, then save as mp4. No Problem it was saved !

I already read that FAQ you posted, i guess there is a problem with avidemux and timestamps, while mkvmerge doesnt have this problem, because once the file is put in mkv, avidemux can do whatever it wants.

What are your comments Jan ? or Mean ?

Remuxing the file with another software often helps, you don't have to change the container format (ok, mkvmerge sticks to MKV format). Remuxing your file with ffmpeg (retaining the container) might also have helped.

So you have a working solution, for now. Without a sample of identical type video, 5 secs or max 20 MB (container/used codecs/ same parameters/ not the same subject), there is nothing much the developers can undertake.
This is my opinion as user and may not reflect what developers or forum staff want to say/do about it.

download a longer version from other location.

mean

without a sample to reproduce we cant do much

Here's your sample...  would have uploaded something else, but it didn't want to waste time.

Basically it was a flv, and when saving it cuts the clip in half and throws this message.
2.6.4 r8696 does this, when opening it shows no message.

2.5.6-1 shows when opening the H.264 alternate mode message, then the rebuild index message, if I select yes it cracks, if I select no it keeps stable.

mean

The frame per second is sightly wrong
29.69 instead of 26.71,  that's why it aborts at some point
Looking why the error

mean

The samples you provided can now be saved as mp4 with latest nightly

Hello!
I have the same problem (2.6.7 and also the latest nightly r9010 included).

I tried everything but the same message "File too short" (AVI/MP4 muxers tested, Video: MPEG-4 AVC & XVID, Audio: AAC (Faac)).

Here is the file I want to convert. Actually is a movie, you can download it here for testing purposes:

Hope you can take a look at this.
Thanks!

Hi
I have the same problem: after cutting some seconds at the beginning and at the ending of a MP4 movie, full HD 1920x1080. 25 fps PAL
the "save" got wrong, with the message "too short"
Version 2.6.7

It looks like a problem (?)
