So, does Avidemux handle these files correctly? That is - does it understand how to convert the video which is stored as 60i to straight 30P? As you may know 60i normally has the top and bottom frames separated by 1/60 second but with PF30 the top and bottom frames are NOT separated in time!

Would you mind to provide a sample?

I can generate one if you need it - my present one is 4 hours long and 12+ GB :o .

Here is what I'm talking about in more detail:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_segmented_frame

My canon camcorder when set for PF30 is actually 29.97PsF I believe. I really want 30P for posting to the internet - both Avidemux and FFMPEG seem to reduce it to 29.97P :) . But my question is do they do it properly or assume the video is true 60i and use a fancy deinterlacer that is both unnecessary and will generate temporal artifacts :( ?

I don't know how Avidemux handles such files without a single sample to try. No deinterlacer is added automatically, but one would be necessary anyway to weave both fields together.

I'll attach a short sample

Actually it does output progressive so it must be using some sort of (hopefully primitive) deinterlacer :) .

EDIT> Cant attach video files here I guess :( . Try this:
