This explains why the appImage doesn't run: It is 64-bit only.

Your CPU is 64-bit capable, you have enough RAM (but adding at least 1GiB won't harm). You should install a 64-bit operating system. 32-bit Linux software gets zero upstream testing, so escape from that sinking ship ASAP.
