Cannot open a ts file
« on: November 03, 2018, 01:51:22 PM »
I'm very new to this software, but within a couple of days I have grown to like it a lot. It has solved my problem of trimming .ts files recorded from my PVR and keeping the file size comparatively low. One problem has arisen which I cannot see questioned in this forum, and that concerns just one file that I have which was recorded recently from my Humax PVR, which fails to open. It plays perfectly on the TV. Up to now, I have performed the opening and trimming procedure tens of times without any difficulty with other likewise .ts files from the same source, But this one file, when I select it via the open option, just freezes the Avidemux 2.7.1 program to the point where the window eventually says 'Not Responding'. Normally once you have selected the file to open a small window entitled 'Indexing' will appear and clear graphical display data shows the data loading. In this case, no window appears. Obviously file curruption was my first thought and have re-generated the video file again, but it made no difference. I also observed that the file in question when double clicked will run perfectly ok within Windows Media Player, and I have also had no difficulty loading the file into Cyberlink Power Director 16. My PC OS is Win7 64 bit with quad core processors and 16G of RAM. Is there anything I can do to narrow down and understand the problem. Any thought and suggestions would be appreciated.

Please delete the .idx2 file for the problematic TS if present and try the latest nightly build available (currently r181030). If the problem persists, please provide a sample (the first ~100 MiB of the TS file) via WeTransfer, Mega, Dropbox, Google Drive or a similar service.

Thank you for your reply. I downloaded the 'nightly build' you recommended and can confirm that there was no .idx2 file present associated with this file. But the outcome was the same.
You kindly offered to look at the first 100 Mb of the .TS file. My problem is how do I do that? Do I require another piece of software to extract this data or is there something more obvious, and readily available to achieve this goal.

You could probably use something like HJSplit and provide the first fragment as a sample.

Hi eumagga0x2a
I'm very sorry for the hassle, but I have got the data you recommended. But having great difficulty getting the link to you through this forum web site.
First I got an error asking for Javascript to be enabled, now it's saying that my email is a spammer!!!!
I just want you to know I've got the file, and perhaps if you supply send me your e-mail, I can get the link to you that way.
Here's hoping.

I'm sorry, the external anti-spam service is an all-or-nothing solution... Please use a personal message for the link.

Thank you for the sample. Avidemux loads the video just fine for me. Could you please compress and attach %localappdata%\avidemux\admlog.txt resulting from an attempt to open the stream?

Having more difficulties getting the file to you. The Admlog file on my PC is 26Gb in size. My uneducated guess is that the program may be stuck in a loop trying to achieve something and failing, generation loads of log entries. Anyhow in order for you to have a look I have copied the recent part of the file, hence the file name of 'Edited Admlog.txt'. so that the forum site will not block the attachment. If it is not enough let me know and perhaps we will try another way.

That is impressive! I'll look into limiting debug messages from tsPacket::getNextPSI, maybe they are the reason for the problem.

Just a point of correction on my part. Apologies, I stated that the 'Admlog.txt' file was 26 GB. After looking at the file size again it is actually 26 MB. A good deal smaller. But even with compression the file size comes down to 640K, which still falls outside of the forum maximum file size for attachments. Anyhow I thought i should let you know. Should have gone to Specsavers.

. But even with compression the file size comes down to 640K

That's why you use a file-hosting service and post the link to the file stored there.

Dan.

The attached part is sufficient in this case, I think. We can't find PAT/PMT and fall back to brute force reading. This gives us a few PIDs, but at least one is spurious (there is no content), but we seem to be too persistent trying to find some and generate a lot of debug messages. I hope to find some time for this issue over the next few days.

Please try the latest nightly (r181112 or later) and report back whether it is able to load the problematic TS file successfully.
