Recently got acquainted with Avidemux. Very much its simplicity was pleasant. But why default x264 configuration such bad, what it's necessary to recustomize many settings?

Well, I think with "bad" you mean, the defaults were very different from what you needed for your specific encode.

If we did change everything as you need it, e.g. tune everything for max. quality, then the next user will come along and complain about the slowness ;)

It's impossible to make the defaults "right" for everybody and for everything. That's why there is an options dialog and why you can save your config...
You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already.
Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world.

Thanks for the answer. I meant that default x264 settings strongly differ from what are described in avidemux documentation as a recommended minimum.
