vlc won't open mp4 files from conversion and upscale question

1. I converted a flv file to mp4 in copy mode,it plays fine in Quicktime but vlc acts as it's recording the video (video plays but i cannot  see it)
2.how can i upscale without ruin the video?upscale from 360p to 576p,or if there are any other good open source programs that work fine on a mac

What was the (video and audio) encoding of the source video? Use the i button in Avidemux to check (e.g. h.264/aac).
Do you use Perian QuickTime plugin for decoding? Do you really have to remux your flv video to mp4 (e.g. for compatibiliy to some hardware)?

Open source: MKVtoolnix (which outputs MKV as container format), mp4box (never used it, MP4 output), ffmpeg (CLI)
Commercial: QuickTime Pro (which outputs MOV as container format), SimpleMovieX (MP4 output)

You may also try iFFmpeg in demo mode.

just use Avidemux 2.6, mp4v2 output (or mkv if you want to configure width).

No idea about flv codec,just picked from yt.it works in vlc before i convert it.

just use Avidemux 2.6, mp4v2 output

There is no static binary of ADM 2.6 for OS X.

Hello.  I read your post where you asked how to get a bigger video.  You can start off with a bigger one.
On youtube, this is fun.  Here is how I do it:  Let's say I wanted to get some recent tornado updates, and I
know the video url.  Using Homebrew I can install movgrab, and then type:

There is an open pull request for movgrab on Homebrew.
They haven't got around to pulling it into their main repo.

If you're into it, you can build movgrab from source without Homebrew of course.  Once you have
a bigger video, shrinking it is much much much much better than enlarging.  Avidemux will do either.
Use MediInfo Gui to look at your videos if you want to see what codec they require or read avidemux
log output.
