LAME in Avidemux inferior to latest LAME proper

I've just examined what I've been hearing and suspecting for some time now: the LAME mp3 encoder in Avidemux produces audio with more artifacts while giving lower quality than the latest LAME encoder, at the same settings.
Now, I'm not into programming the least, so if the cause of this is that there's an old version of LAME in there that cannot be changed to the new one for some software architectural reason, I accept that.
But if it's supposed to sound as good as the latest LAME, then there's something seriously wrong.

AFAIK LAME API hasn't changed for long time, so if you compile AVIdemux by yourself, you should be able to use latest LAME with it.

Agreed.  If you compile avidemux-2.5.6 from source,
it will detect and use your external libraries.
