.vob files and missing audio

I have read all about problems with Avidemux and .vob files.  For the most part, I have managed to get the program to work (more or less).  I am using Avidemux 2.5.6 at the moment (I tried 2.6 but it crashed repeatedly).  All of the files play fine in VLC Player and Windows Media Player Classic.  When I open them in Avidemux, however, there is a noticeable audio sync problem, which apparently is an inherent issue with Avidemux and the way it deals with .vob files.

Here is the specific problem I am having: after determining how far off the audio is and using the shift function to correct it, the audio appears to be completely in sync.  I then trim the file until I have the segment I want.  The audio still appears to be in sync.  But then at the end of the file the audio cuts out entirely.  The audio is not sped up and ending too soon.  It just cuts out suddenly as if a portion of the audio is missing.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?  I hope I have explained it enough.  I have searched all over the place for help with .vob files and Avidemux and mostly the advice seems to be use another program.  I have yet to find one that works as well as Avidemux for editing/cropping, though.

Thanks in advance.

ChopperXP is one tool that usually works with .vob files if you just want to cut them.

Does the %appdata%\avidemux\admlog.txt complain something after the audio cuts out?
I am away between 15th of May - 15th of June. (yes, I am playing D3)

It says error.  That is probably bad, right?

Not good, audio is lost somehow.

Loading several vob parts automaticly?  Load 1st vob part. Don't let the program add detected parts. Append each .vob sequential. When 1st part is loaded, from keyboard press [Ctrl][A] simultaneous and select next sequential .vob. See if this helps.

I have in the past had multiple vob files loaded automatically.  In this case it was just one vob file, though.

Jan Gruuthuse

Play original vob with VLC, is audio present there, where the cut out happens?

ewing

The vob plays fine in VLC.  When I load it in Avidemux the audio is out of sync but complete.  I use shift to fix the sync problem and the audio plays fine.  When I trim before the segment I want, the audio is in sync and complete.  It is only when I trim after the segment I want that things go awry. I see the following in admlog:

Syncing on 8192
Sync found at offset 864
A52 sync found at 5878944 + 864
DMX_audio Going out of bound (position : 19214944 asked 8192 end19222528)
Cannot read enough bytes!
DMX_audio Going out of bound (position : 19214944 asked 8192 end19222528)
Cannot read enough bytes!
trying to sync on frame 17996

I am not sure exactly what "Going out of bound" means but it certainly seems like it could lead to audio disappearing.  But the audio is there.  I tried trimming first and then using shift and the same thing happened.  Somehow, the mixture of using shift and trimming is causing an audio mismatch.

Could it have something to do with DVD Decrypter not accurately copying the audio from the DVD?

out of bound: very basic passes: the End Of File.
If recent released dvd could be an DVD Decrypter issue? Been a long time since that one is updated.
Load vob in avidemux.
shift the audio
Save new file with copy for both video and audio and Output Format Mpeg TS Muxer (ff) with extension .vob.
Is audio missing now?
Trim Start and End.
Save new file with copy for both video and audio and Output Format Mpeg TS Muxer (ff) with extension .vob.
Is audio missing now?

Shifting the audio, saving the file afterwards, then trimming that file worked.  The audio is in sync and complete.  It will be a pain to have to do this every time I run into a file that for whatever reason "goes out of bound" but at least it works.

Thanks so much.

Jan Gruuthuse

Great that it works, after some time you will get used to it. And at the speed the program works, saving with copy for audio and video.
