Can not open VOB-files in Avidemux when extracting from a DVD

Installed Avidemux yesterday- so I am "born yesterday" man!
My target is to use it to extract dvds, which consist of my own video movies (taken, edited and saved by me, but only as dvds).
The extracted files should be in a form that allows to load them again into an video editing program for further editing.
Now - can not open VOB-files in Avidemux when extracting from a DVD.
I have the list of the files on the dvd open ok. But choosing a VOB file (any of them) and trying to open it, gives info: "cannot be opened" and an additional info "(not an error)".
How to solve this? Should I set / change some parametres first?
OS = Win 7 64-bit, Avidemux 64-bit.

avidemux is not a decrypting tool! Suppose that says it all.
