Tested on OS: Windows XP sp3, Norwegian
Affected versions of Avidemux (I've tested on those versions)
Avidemux 2.6.4 (r8696)
Avidemux 2.6.4 (r8751)

Bug description
Sometimes when encoding, just when Avidemux finnish the encoding process, this error messsage appears and no video file is actually saved to disk.

When does the error message appear?
Doing some test I've concluded that the error occurs under the following conditions:

  • Encoding mode is Average bitrate (Two pass). Applies both for x264 and xvid4.
  • One or more characters in the output file name is the common norwegian letter "Ã¥". I've done testing of 2 encodings of same video and same settings but the file name, and thus I found that the character must be the reason

Temporarly workaround
To simply don't use that letter, but it's just as common as t.ex the character "U" in english language.

Also it doesn't seems to affect the encoding when Encoding mode is Constant rate factor.

mean

confirmed :  the intermediate file is managed by libx264, not by avidemux
