Hi all,

I recently completed building a basic 5.1 setup. I have an older Sony receiver (STR-DE715) that has analog 5.1 (RCA) with DolbyPro Logic I.

Setup is play movies from NAS via ethernet to TV or for cable, cable box to TV via HDMI. Output from TV to stereo is optical fiber to a Digital-to-Analog Audio Decoder then 6 RCA outputs to receiver.  TV only likes AAC so for movies via the network, using Avidemux to convert audio to AAC (Faac), 384bit and then use a filter remix to Dolby Pro Logic I.

My question is about remixing the audio via Avidemux :

1. do I even need to remix? [to ProLogic]
2. Should I remix to the 5.1 option
3. not remix and the decoder will handle the digital AAC 5.1 to analog and the receiver will do the rest into pro logic

Thanks in advance

Strange question for this forum!

Seems the receiver is taking 5.1 analog channels and applies DolbyPro.
Then best to feed it 5.1 channels.

Now what does the DAC input want to create the 5.1 out?
What can the TV provide out with the various options for in?

Who knows - try all options and listen!

Thanks,

I'm taking AC3 and DTS 6 channel and just converting to AAC w/o remixing and it seems fine. The decoder converts to analog and I figure the receiver does the DPL. Sounds good.
