Error seeking to N ms

Hello to everybody,
using firmware version 35 or 37 of my Hauppauge HD PVR Rocket, the resulting MP4 are not "browsable" with both AVIdemux v2.6.8 and 2.6.9.

What happens is that:
- I cannot always use the keys <- -> to go back and forward
- Using >> I received error "Cannot go to the next keyframe"
- Using the "Time" button I received error "Error seeking to [N] ms"

:o

Since this problem does not occur with previous firmware version (33) I asked Hauppauge support to solve this but their last reply was: "It would be on the developers at AVdemux to change their software to incorporate the changes to the Rocket files to allow seeking". :-X

Would some of you, AVIdemux experts, be so kind to help me to understand if the MP4 produced by HD PVR Rocket (with the latest firmware versions) is really malformed or if something should be fixed at AVIdemux? :-*

Thank you very much, in advance, for your time and your patience.

Upload a sample mp4 recording, causing that issue, to dropbox or similar webservice (publicly accessible: no login or whatsoever) approx. max. size 100 MB.
and provide download link to this mp4
Time permitting: developer(s) could have a look and see what is going on?

Are you recording standalone or connected to pc? If the last, does it record in .ts and does that work?

The sample can be downloaded here.

Recordings are always obtained (by me) using HD PVR Rocket in stand-alone mode (in this case MP4 is the only possible format).

same here, you can't move in that mp4. For this to work in avidemux this would require developer understanding and intervention.

Workarround: install on your system MKVToolnix and drag and drop that mp4 on to mkvmerge GUI and once loaded press [Start Muxing]. This will create an .mkv with the same filename and this will load into avidemux.

Thank you for your advice, Jan.

Also Hauppauge Support did something similar, as follows: "I decided to remux the video to a different container, and used MKV format (using Handbrake), they seek perfectly now, no issues at all. As an additional test just now, i kept the output as mp4 in handbrake instead of MKV, the files now seek perfectly".

Obviously this can only be a temporary workaround and not a final solution. Let's hope that Avidemux Developers will have time to look at this.
I will provide their feedback to Hauppauge Support but, I guess, the resulting MP4, with the latest firmware versions, is someway malformed.

Have a nice day!

big difference:
- mkvtoolnix = remuxing only , not time consuming.
- handbrake = re-encoding
I have both in my toolbox, just in case 1st does not give the wanted result. ;)
