Hello everybody,

i'm a german user and i apologize for my bad english. I've the version 2.6.10:

Avidemux crashes if i try to load a video file more than 1 GB in size. Video files under 1 GB get successfully opened.

I hope that this bug can solve in the next release.

Your report is to vague. More info is needed.
Operating System, 32 or 64 bit?
Used hardware?
Used media?
Used video:
- container (.avi, .mkv, .ts, ...)
- used codecs for video, audio
- origin (web, recording from, ...
- 1 file or multiple (split) files?

Video size (One Video, One File): on daily basis I process 5-6 GB size, from time to time I use over 30 GB size .

I can verify this problem as well. Tried to add an mpeg-ts video of 3.8GB and another of 2.2GB and program stop responding the moment i tried to add them.

This occured in win 7x64 using an AMD FX-6300 and 64bit version of avidemux 2.6.10

mean

If you add the same file to itself, does it work ?
i.e. load foo.ts and append foo.ts

If u r askin me, all i can say, is that since the program stops responding, no further action is possible but only close it. Tested under 32bit version as well and two more videos of 1.6 and 1.2 GB, total 4 videos.

I made a fast test using 3 other videos of different format to see if that's the problem as i was suspecting, using both 32 and 64bit versions of avidemux. I used an *.avi video of 2.2 GB of AVC format, then an MPEG-4 of 1.6GB and a WMV of 1.9GB and all three were added without problem.

Then i tried again with my two MPEG-TS videos and program stopped responding even without OpenGL support. I believe this should help developers to propose a workaround of add a fix in a later version. I would like a response please on this, if they will.

It is much easier if it is reproducible on linux
Else it will take more time

Can you elaborate more on
QuoteTried to add an mpeg-ts video of 3.8GB and another of 2.2GB and program stop responding the moment i tried to add them.
- source of mpeg-ts? same source? own recordings? dvb-s/s2/t/t2/c/c2. used device? previously edited or re-muxed/muxed (avidemux/other software)
- did you drag & drop or used the append from menu
- or do you get a question on auto appending these mpeg-ts in avidemux?

I have not come across these kind of issues with mpeg-ts dvb-s/s2 in ubuntu environment (14.04.3 64-bit) with avidemux.
Happy to conduct test(s) if we have your exact work flow.

Jan Gruuthuse

You don't have on obscured pop-up window while this happens? Pressing [Alt] [Tab] should cycle you through open windows on your desktop.
This is what happens when 2 different sourced mpeg-ts are draged and dropped on avidemux 2.6.10 (ubuntu 14.04.3):

pressing OK on pop-up info window produces "something failed ..." 2nd window pop-up

The source of all mpeg-ts is the same for all videos i tried, not just the first two. They're dvb-t from a TV decoder straight copied to PC. I usually drag and drop in avidemux but tried from menu also. The pic i attached here, can clearly show u that no option is given than close the program.

The problem occurs only with videos over 1GB indeed, all the smaller i tested, 900-740-400MB were added without problem, and any other video type over 1GB was added as well, only mpeg-ts is givin this trouble.

AQUAR

Have you waited to see if the avidemux GUI becomes responsive again.
ADM could be held busy with some processing to append the second TS (indexing?).

I have a few programs that grey out when accessing its GUI whilst the program is busy with some task.

If I have time I'll mux a large video into TS and see if they will append on my win64.

zakk

Wait 1 or 2 minutes: Avidemux often seems to freeze but in fact it is doing something and comes back to normal.

if AQUAR & zakk recommendation is not working:

- those examples provided by me are from the same dvb-s decoder. Do note that channels can differ in video properties.
- the used hard discs are not in FAT32?
- you're not using usb devices?
- You do have enough free space on system & temp & destination to do this process (roughly 2.5 times the total size of the videos you're to merge)
- you don't use any (windows) disk compression to enlarge the storage space on your system?
QuoteNTFS compression should not be used for: Windows system files and other program files. Using NTFS compression here can reduce your computerââ,¬â,,¢s performance and potentially cause other errors.
source: How to Use NTFS Compression and When You Might Want To
- exit al none essential programs
- ram memory capacity?

- DVB-T recordings are possible subject to time encoding errors. Possible test: re-mux both mpeg-ts with MKVToolNix for windows and try with these 2 mkv's

Avidemux won't become responsive again not even after 5 minutes, it should be ready within 10seconds, i can separate situtations of freeze and crash.

I would never try to edit videos under FAT32 and the only usb i use, is the usb flash that records the videos from my TV decoder which uses FAT32 but nothin wrong with it. Free space is more than enough and no NTFS compression is used. System has 4GB ram and there is 2.5GB free when i start editing videos.

Only avidemux stops responding on those videos while 3 other video edit programs, accepted them gladly and only over 1GB size i repeat.

I'm afraid there is nothin more relevant to mention about this problem as the "guilty" of this case is clearly avidemux.
