Edit .M4V file purchased from iTunes Store

Hi. I purchased a movie from the iTunes store and I want to extract from it just a short segment. The file loads OK into Avidemux (even tells me how long it is) but it won't play. i.e. I cannot advance beyond the start. Anything I can do? Help will be greatly appreciated. BJ

Not to worry. I found sopme software to import it from iTunes and convert to MP4. Now I can edit it!

Not so fast. I can edit and save, but then I cannot play the resultant file with Windows Media Player. I doesn't recognize the format. What options are recommended on saving the edited file?

Probably you need to re-encode the edited video with
Video Output
[Mpeg4 AVC (x264)]
