H.264 AVI Black or Green Screen

When I first open Avidemux I'm getting a small black/white icon on the middle left of the window.  I can't open any avi files now that are encoded H.264, they appear as a black screen.  what the heck is going on?

Your OS ? has no support for playing .avi with h264 ?
ps.: avidemux advises against using h264 in .avi container (dated format)

Just a wild guess ââ,¬â€œ using a 2.7.0 nightly on Windows with DXVA2 decoding enabled.
