Opus encoder?

We have opus decoder, but no encoder? Looking at reviews opus is the preferred encoder for lower bitrate streams.

Will Opus replace Vorbis in video files?

For Ogg video files (which use the Theora video codec), you can use Opus instead of Vorbis, but the overall size reduction will be minimal and it will break compatibility with existing players.

For WebM video files, the convention is to use the VP9 video codec when using Opus as an audio codec.

I'm cooking DVD rips/backups for myself (old black and white movies), my players can play MKV files with whatever video and audio coder is used. I think Opus should be one of encoding choices.

So what's the verdict? Opus is the best low-bitrate encoder as of today, A. D. 2017. Used in WebM frequently. Can we have it?
