down sample colour 10-bit to 8-bit

Hi
is there a preferred way to down sample 10-bit colour to 8-bit?
Without filters the result is blur and colourless.
I tried to play with Mplayer equ1 hue, but cannot figure out decent settings.
Cannot find any further settings
