Assume I load a video and want to apply a filter (e.g. increase contrast) to only a selection interval of the whole video.

How can I achieve this?

0) Select a codec of your choice in the "Video Output"
1) Define an interval on the timeline using the buttons |-A and B-|
2) Filters -> Colors -> Contrast -> OK
3) RightMouseButton click on "Contrast" in the right column -> Make partial

Ok, thank you.

So I have to set the interval ALWAYS in  main timeline and not in Filter sub window.
Correct?

A much faster way:
1) Select the interval with the "A" and "B" marker (be aware: the frame at marker "B" is not included)
2) press Ctrl+F
3) select the filter (in case english language and "Contrast" just type "tr", the list will be filtered, and the "Contrast" highlighted), press Return
4) configure the filter, then accept it (click Ok)
