must not be, this should be showed BEFORE clicking OK.

Anything older than the last release (2.8.1) is unsupported, all reported problems must be verified against the latest 2.8.2 nightlies.

Is it about Nvidia H264 / HEVC hw encoders?

I am not sure this is possible with hw encoders, the only reliable way is to try to initialize encoder and wait whether the driver likes the config or not. I agree that it would be nice to probe general availability of some encoders (not all NVIDIA graphics cards include encoder cores, some do not support HEVC etc.) on application start like we do for hw decoding capabilities.
