Avidemux out of sync

I am not computer literate so my problem might be obvious.  But I can't really do anything complicated to fix it.  Just warning you!

I have a Mac Mini.  I recently got Sonoma 14.5 OS.
I am currently running Avidemux 2.7.1

I didn't really have this issue on an earlier OS but now audio seems to be consistently out of sync with the video outputs.

When I check the Shift box and type in 300 or 200 and then output the video again it seems to fix the audio sync issue.  However, this is an extra step and I am wondering if I am missing something obvious.  Like, do I download and use a later Avidemux?

My concern is that in the past when I have gone to a later version on my computer or iPhone, the app doesn't work!

What should I do if anything?
Thanks,
Mylesawy

Is "7" as version minor a typo? If you are running the 2.8.1 release, I would not expect that the latest 2.8.2 nightly build behaves differently regarding audio device latency (and it is just a guesstimated hardcoded value), but anything older than 2.8.1 is entirely unsupported.

I'll recheck audio sync on my MacMini. Didn't notice anything unusual in this regard running native Avidemux builds. However, a hardcoded latency doesn't look reassuring.

It is not a typo.  I am running 2.7.1

If I upgrade, will Avidemux run on my mac mini running Sonoma 14.5?

I am speechless.

Please make a backup of ~/.avidemux6 directory (or rather rename to ~/.avidemux6-ancient), then try the latest nightly (it is x86_64, so it runs via emulation on an arm64 "Apple Silicon" MacMini). If it doesn't run, we'll look for a solution.

By your reaction, I take it that my version is very old!

I really thank you for your help but as I told you, I am not good with or knowledgeable about computers.

So in terms of saving the current version of Avidemux on my computer, or backing it up somewhere...I don't understand what you wrote.

So can I just save the Avidemux app that is in my Mac HD folder in Applications on to an external drive and then delete it on my Mac?  And if the newer versions of Avidemux don't work on my computer, can I delete them and put this version of the App back in my Applications folder?

Thanks and sorry for the stupid questions!

You don't need to delete the old app to try out the new one, just make sure you don't launch it after you have installed the 2.8.2 nightly. The only concern is the Avidemux profile (the hidden folder ".avidemux6" in your home directory). You should not allow one app version to use the profile of the respective other – make backup of the aforementioned hidden folder.

I just downloaded your new version of your app - Avidemux 2.8.1

The good news is that is definitely fixed the syncing problem I was experiencing on version 2.7.1 on my Mac Mini running Sonoma.

Here's the bad news -

It only opens the edited mp4 file in Avidemux, not in my native Quicktime app on my mac.  Further...

All the mp4 files on my desktop now only open in the Avidemux 2.8.1 app, NOT on in Quicktime.

Even if I close the Avidemux app, open quicktime, and then double click a mp4 file it reopens the Avidemux app and opens the video file in that.

Is there a fix for this?
