Title: [Solved] 2.6 does fail on IMA ADPCM audio conversion (2.5 does not)
Post by: styrol on December 22, 2012, 01:17:07 PM
The following is a summary of the problem described in the german forum (http://avidemux.org/smuf/index.php/topic,11617.0.html):
Source video: http://www.uffinger.de/test.rar

Conversion by ADM 2.5:             MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> AVI (MPEG-4 ASP/MP3):  audio track will be played (everything ok)

Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8314): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> AVI (MPEG-4 ASP/MP3):  audio track is there but won't be played (by VLC, MPlayer, QuickTimePlayer)

Further testing:
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8314): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MKV (Copy/copy):  "muxer: cannot open"
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8314): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MKV (Copy/AAC-lav): audio track is there but won't be played
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8314): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MKV (MPEG-4 AVC/AAC-lav or AAC-faac): audio track is there but won't be played
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8314): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4v2 (Copy/AAC-faac): audio track is missing (no error message)
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8314): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4v2 (Copy/AAC-lav): audio track is there but won't be played
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8314): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4v2 (MPEG-4 AVC/AAC-faac): audio track is missing (no error message)
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8314): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4v2 (MPEG-4 AVC/AAC-lav): audio track is there but won't be played
ffmpeg: ffmpeg -i path-to-CIMG7277.MOV -vcodec copy -acodec libfaac -ab 128k path-to-output-video.mp4 (everything ok)
ffmpeg: ffmpeg -i path-to-CIMG7277.MOV -vcodec libxvid -acodec libmp3lame -ab 128k path-to-output-video.avi (everything ok)
Conversion by ADM 2.5: MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4 (Copy/AAC-faac): everything okay

So in ADM 2.6, AAC encoding by faac is ok as long as it's in MKV and not MP4. But also in this case the audio track won't be played at all. In ADM 2.5 conversion seems to work . Also FFMPEG has no problem with MOV files with IMA ADPCM encoding.

Should be better starting with  r8324

Thanks.
Using ADM 2.6r8338 on OS X, Audio track is now always there and playing, but audio is always stuttering in VLC:

Video Copy Mode / AAC: (VLC: audio is stuttering)
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MKV    (Copy/AAC-lav): audio track is there but is stuttering
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4v2 (Copy/AAC-faac): audio track is there but is stuttering
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4v2 (Copy/AAC-lav): audio track is there but is stuttering
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4     (Copy/AAC-lav): audio track is there but is stuttering
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MKV     (Copy/copy):  "muxer: cannot open"

Conversion to H.264/AAC (VLC: audio is stuttering)
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4v2 (MPEG-4 AVC/AAC-lav or AAC-faac): audio track is there but is stuttering
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4     (MPEG-4 AVC/AAC-lav or AAC-faac): audio track is there but is stuttering
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MKV     (MPEG-4 AVC/AAC-lav or AAC-faac): audio track is there but is stuttering

Conversion to MPEG-4 ASP/MP3 (VLC: audio is stuttering)
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8314): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> AVI      (MPEG-4 ASP (XviD)/MP3):  audio track is there but is stuttering

Thanks a lot!
Using ADM 2.6r8339 on OS X, audio track is now playing fine in VLC and QuickTime Player:

Video Copy Mode / AAC: (VLC: audio is ok)
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MKV    (Copy/AAC-faac or AAC-lav): ok
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4v2 (Copy/AAC-faac or AAC-lav): ok
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4     (Copy/AAC-faac or AAC-lav): ok

Copy Mode: (ADM failed, but this is okay with IMA4 in MKV)
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MKV     (Copy/copy):  "muxer: cannot open"

Conversion to H.264/AAC (VLC: audio is ok)
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4v2 (MPEG-4 AVC/AAC-faac): audio is ok.
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MP4     (MPEG-4 AVC/AAC-faac): audio is ok.
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8338): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> MKV     (MPEG-4 AVC/AAC-faac): audio is ok.

Conversion to MPEG-4 ASP/MP3 (VLC: audio is ok)
Conversion by ADM 2.6 (r8314): MOV (H.264/IMA4) --> AVI      (MPEG-4 ASP (XviD)/MP3):  audio is ok.
