Title: x264 writing library, reverse version ?

Avidemux r8494 uses x264 r2273
               r8844 uses x264 r2189
               r8947 uses x264 r2189

Why did you go back to r2189 and stay on it.
r2273 is at least 10% more efficient than r2189.
Latest is r2358.

It is the version bundled with ubuntu
