Iââ,¬â,,¢m using CRF single pass, and as far as I can tell, the quality setting has no effect on the video produced. At the top of x264 configuration, I tried fast which sets the quality to 14. Then with the same video, I loaded fast and changed quality to 26. My result had roughly the same filesize, but I think it should change by a factor of 4.

I just updated to version 2.6.6, ubuntu 13.10; Previously, I was using 2.6.0 from a year ago. And Iââ,¬â,,¢m sure that the quality factor affected the compression in that version. I also noticed that during prepossessing in 2.6.6, the quantiser bounces between 31 and 32 in the encoding box regardless of the quality setting.

Has anyone else noticed this? Or, am I missing something? I can supply example source files, but I donââ,¬â,,¢t think that affects the problem.
