I'll soon find out one way or another and let you know the results.

Well, I finally was able to acquire a VCR that uses S-video output for video tapes, my question now is: How do I use the 'Avisynth script filter' (under 'Miscellaneous', in the 'Filters' part of Avidemux (version 2.5.6)? Unless I have missed something, I haven't seen any documentation about it - and by the way, I'm using a 32 bit operating system.

What was the impact of the S-Video connection on the dot crawl issue?

Can't help with the avisynth filter under linux as I use the windows version.
But avisynth scripting for the various plugins is available on the avisynth forums.

I haven't done much actual testing of it yet, I was just trying to find any problems and get them resolved before they "found me " (so to speak).

Some scart do also carry s-video: need scart plug (switchable in/out video)

Gandalf

What is the function of a scart plug? My TV tuner card already has both composite and s-video input ports. And where would I find such a plug should I need one?

Jan Gruuthuse

If you have other output devices with scart output, like dvd-recorder, .... then you could hook these up with s-video to tuner card for grabbing to computer.

All I'm trying to do is transfer video tapes to DVDs.
