I am using avidemux_2.6.8_win64_v2.exe on Windows 7 64 bits.

I did the follwoing steps in Avidemux 2.6.8 :

1. I open a MP4 file with AAC audio.

2. When I choose in Audio Output "MP3 (lame)" and click on button Configure then the Configure window doesn't display.

3. When I go to Menu "Audio" and choose "Save audio" then the saved MP3 file is corrupted.

When I do the same steps with Avidemux 2.5.6-1 then everything works.

I tested it with following night build  :

http://www.avidemux.org/nightly/win64/avidemux_r060515__win64Qt5.7z

1. Open a MP4 file with AAC audio.
2. Choose in Audio Output "MP3 (lame)" and click on button Configure, the windows displays.
3. Go to Menu "Audio" and choose "Save audio" then the saved MP3 file is NOT corrupted and works now.

But I see other problems :

1. In the MP3 configure window, the maximum bitrate for MP3 is 224. The bitrate values 256 and 320 are missing in the dropdownlist.

2. If you haven't opened a video in Avidemux, and you try to open Configure window from every section :
section Video Decoder LavCodec : Configure window doesn't display
section Video Output, choose "Mpeg4 AVC" : Configure window displays
section Audio Output, choose "MP3 (lame)" : Configure window doesn't display
section Output Format, choose "AVI Muxer" : Configure window displays

For your interest, mp3 was designed to give HiFi quality at 128kbps

What would be the use of it ?  :)

Avidemux 2.5.6 showed in the configure window from MP3: all bitrates, including 256kbps and 320kbps. This behavior changed in Avidemux 2.6. If the source is AAC in 256kbps or 320kbps and you don't want to lose (too much) quality then the best option is to use the same bitrate as the source. A configure option "use same bitrate as source" would also be welcome. Because converting an audio file with bitrate 64kbps to a bitrate 128kbps has no use. MP3 supports the bitrates 256kbps and 320kbps, it is up to the user to change the default MP3 bitrate of 128kbps in Avidemux to something else.

Avidemux 2.5.6 was able to show all configure windows when no video was loaded. This behavior changed in Avidemux 2.6. I don't understand why Avidemux 2.6 (when no video is loaded) shows the configure window for some selections and not for other selections. With Avidemux 2.5.6 you can start first Avidemux, put you configuration correct, load your video, save your video in the new format. With Avidemux 2.6 you can not do this, you are forced to first load the video.
