Mohammad:
Hello
I have a rx 580 amd
I need a full instruction in how to use my gpu as video decoder/encoder in avidemux
Thank you guys
It really has made me curious
i have a very bad cpu. If i know how to use my gpu in encodeing it will help me a lot

Which operating system? On Windows, HW accelerated decoding for H.264 and HEVC only might be available via DXVA2 interface, just enable it in Avidemux settings (please try the latest build, a MinGW one or a VC++ one – the latter should be updated tomorrow to the current git master, the former is current – right away instead of starting with the ageing release) and see whether it works or not.

HW accelerated encoding using AMD GPU is not implemented in Avidemux and is unlikely to arrive soon as no one of Avidemux developers and contributors posess necessary hardware.

To use HW accelerated decoding and encoding right away, swap Radeon for a pretty recent NVIDIA.

My operating system is win 10 and it is up to date and Im using the latest version of avidemux.
You Mean there is no way to use amd gpu in encoding/decoding in avidemux?
there is a check box in HW Accel in preferences which it is - decode Video using XVBA (AMD) - but it is locked or off and it cannot be cheked
How can I use that XVBA in HW Accel?
Does it require some sort of driver to turn on ?
thank you for your help.

1. Please use the latest nightly as pointed out above, the last release is pretty outdated. Confusing dead HW accel entries have been removed from the preferences since then.

2. You should be able to use HW accelerated decoding. Enable DXVA2 and check whether DXVA2 is displayed as decoder in Avidemux GUI when you play a H.264 video. I don't have AMD graphics card to try it myself, so please try and report back.

3. HW accelerated encoding on ADM GPU should be in principle feasible as ffmpeg now supports it, if someone with AMD hardware and appropriate skills contributes code to implement it.
