settings to encode mp4 for use with most devices?

I am doing a simple clipping operation on an MP4 video.  I tried setting the output to Mpeg4 AVC (x264) / MP3 (lame) / MP4 Muxer; also tried with MP4v2 Muxer.  Both results work on Linux, but the audio does not play on iOS.  What setting should I use if I want it to be playable on iPhones?  Is there a way to use the same formats as the input video?

By the way, this is Avidemux 2.8, not 2.6.  It's just what they had in the Void Linux repos.

If source audio plays well on iOS, set audio to copy. Else encode it as aac.
