Removed Subtitle video filters: VobSub, DVB Sub, ASS, Subtitler

Now why would you do such a thing?
Are the any chances of getting Subtitler filter back by modifying the SPEC file when building from source? What were the lines in the old versions of Avidemux?

I did build this from source (avidemux-2.6.3-1.fc18.src.rpm). In the avidemux.spec -file there is no mention about the Subtitler. Is there another way?

To enable ass filter, must build Avidemux without external libass.So then skip patch2 and delete all lines, that contain libass into it.Other filters not included for now.

No you won't get .srt filter.
ssa should work, try attached sample.
Load video, chose video output, select subtitle filter and add. Select attached file (browse to it), should already show up in Video Filter Manager [Preview]

Now you need a subtitle editor like Aegisub or similar. This allows you to import .srt and save these as .ssa.

You are of course aware, that most players nowadays do play .srt without hard encoding in video, like over dnla or flatscreen tv with internal media player.

How ended this story?
I'm very interested because I've got the same problem. I cannot make hardsubs using the new version of Avidemux + ass subtitles.
I tried to create the ass file in different ways but without results.
Where is the trick?

Why there no more srt filter in this new version? What the reason for having removed the "old" srt filter?

PS:
I'm using Sabayon. Avidemux is the version, I found in the official repository.

You are using avidemux 2.6.4 QT and not GTK?
When using ass you also need to browse from filter to an installed truetype font on your system. sample ssa subtitle file

Installed 2.6.4. Ass subtitles still don't work.
There are no options like "font selection" to do, so I don't know what to change. There is nothing but the upload to do.
I tried to convert the original srt file in different ways, but don't work.

PS: ssa don't work at all. Avidemux filter says "cannot read file..."
