Asharp and Msharpen

I am struggling in applying either of these filters to my videos.

1) I started using Asharp and like the results I see except the original file grows depending
on the settings for sharpening. As an example:
Orig video=185Mb
apply Asharp (T=2,S=0,B=0) grows encoded file to 343Mb
apply Asharp (T=4,S=0,B=0) grows encoded file to 526Mb
I tried the presents first with similar results.

Does it really make sense that the file size grow the more you sharpen? I dont like it as it
strains the playback quality over the network due to a resulting heavier bitrate.

2) I also tried using Msharpen. The problem is I cant seem getting it working. No matter
what values I use for Threshold or Strength, the effects look unchanged in both the
preview or after the encoding. The beginning presets also do nothing.

I tried to sharpen the same video in both my X264 and x265 encodings and results are the same.

What could be wrong?

Win7-2.6.12

Thanks !

Yes, it's normal the size grows

Thanks Mean,

I guess I need to think twice about doing any sharpening then, at least with Asharpen.

How about Msharpen? Has anybody aside from myself reported any issues in getting it working for X264/265 encoding? So far it has been nothing but a complete waste of my time.

Thanks !

MSharpen is dedicated to animé
It smooths low contrast zones and enhance edges

If your clip is not animé, it will probably smooth rather than sharpen
