Hi,

I have a DVD made by a colleague but I don't know which tool he has used but the encoding is very bad, not in term of video quality (more than bad but due to the source) but due to the MPEG encoding.
If I try to rip it with AVIdemux, I get regularly some video and audio freeze.

Original VOB: https://share.orange.fr/#CGVqdSn5GK35cfa6f18b
Example of freeze (at 17 s and after): https://share.orange.fr/#D5iWeqTRAE35cfa6f325

Could you help me?
I have tried virtualdub, VLC: nothing to correct the MPEG file.

Thanks for your help

What did you change going from Mpeg video to AVC?

- The ne mp4 has a lot of horizontal lines added? as opposed to the original vob. Interlaced frame issues?
- Breaks occurring @ 16/17 seconds, 33/34 seconds 51/52 seconds (interval 17/18 seconds)?

Trying the usual, did not help. Breakage or unplayable video was the result, for now.
Is an audio issue after all: bad AC3 audio track
Plenty of these floating around while re encoding:
[AudioStream] Warning skew in dts =+ 203411
[AudioStream] Warning skew lastDts=00:04:34,934
[AudioStream] Warning skew newDts=00:04:35,138
[audioClock] Drift detected :275014755 vs 275218166, delta=203411

probably happened while converting analogue video -> digital video -> dvd

Thks for your help.
The issue is not during the reencodage, but probably in the original VOB that has been badly encoded.
Is there a way to clean that?

I had some success. export original audio track (drag and drop onto audactiy)
Audacity: File: Save Other: (AC3) with ac3 extension added manually.

Load original vob into Avidemux.
Avidemux Menu: Audio: Select Track
[v] Enabled [Track 0 from video (AC3, Stereo, 256kbps)] <- click on that, select [.... Add audio track] and browse to the save AC3 audio track.
save the video with output format set to MKV Muxer

Now you can edit the video and try to improve video ;)
Load the newly saved video into avidemux and proceed as you wish.

Seems good, thx
I have tried with soundforge to extract audio but it sees the VOB filre duration at 9s...
I will do take more time trying audacity

rmanal

Hi,

I'm progressing thanks to you.
I have ripped the audio with VLC and it works, instead when I mix with avidemux I have a gap of 30s between the audio and video...
Nevertheless as I have many DVD produced in the same way I would like a quicker solution: do you know free DVD converter software I can test?

Thanks again

If you don't require the editing, you could try handbrake.

rmanal

It doesn't work: it sees my file as 2mn33 duration instead of 15mn

rmanal

I have tried audacity but it does not accept the VOB file: how have you done?

Jan Gruuthuse

- Latest Version of Audacity
- FFmpeg import/export library <= required
–– Allows Audacity to import and export many additional audio formats such as AC3, AMR(NB), M4A and WMA, and to import audio from video files.
Then just drag and drop on to audacity canvas

For instance handbarke works perfectly, without correction.
Thx for that
